#listenlogging #podcasts #reminiscing

Today I continued only listening to podcasts all day and skipped listening to even a single track.

I was trying to remember all the different podcasts I listened to today and thought maybe the best way to remember is by recounting them backwards. So the last one I listened to was @darius@friend.camp and deerful@friend.camp's Too Much Not Enough. The episode Mobile Music talked about their experience making music on phones. Darius mentioned #Nanoloop being the first app they had used to make music on the go with back on their Palm. I was reading about a new device this morning being released called the Analogue Pocket that just announced it comes with Nanoloop preinstalled..

Nanoloop was a big inspiration to me when I first discovered it. It was one of the earliest apps I had gotten into on my iPhone. I had first been exposed to it at an IRL workshop by (what I assume looking back) was its developer, about making mobile music. It was in a gallery, I think it must have been in New York. I was also reminded of how excited I had been to play with Zach Gage's synthPond, which was also one of the first iPhone apps I ever got into.

Before that I listened to another episode of the same podcast called “Coding Layouts” In The Early 2000s. It made me reminisce about my own first experiences with having a website and what that meant to me at the time. Emma walked about their experience of learning html/css to customize their Neopets profile, which was also one of the early things I first used HTML for. I think I had a website before I ever used Neopets but I had done that with my father. I think Neopets was probably the first time I had used html on a new thing without anyone else showing me first.

Before that I listened to an episode of the Internet History Podcast about the history of Audible, but it was an awful interview. The person they were interviewing had been a web designer there in the early history long before they were bought by Amazon. The only redeeming factor was that I learned Audible had their own audio book player.

Before that I listened to the last two episodes of the Gimlet podcast called Startup about how they were acquired by Spotify. It was sort of sad to hear. I had been a listener of Startup since before they had even named their company or had any other podcasts. And as of last month they sold the company to Spotify for over 300 million dollars. Centralization is depressing.

I didn't listen to any music at all today ironically. Instead I listened to new 6+ hour retelling of the story of Charles Manson in podcast form.

The podcast is called You Must Remember This and I was recommended it by someone many months ago. I don't actually remember who it was that recommended it. I think it was at Hare Krishna in New Orleans when it happened.

I was thinking I would write about my thoughts of listening to the stories for 6 hours but I think that much of one story and your brain is just mush. Also don't really feel like thinking about it any more since I have spent most of my day in this place and am trying to get ready for sleep. So I guess day two of #listenlogging is a bit of a failure. Though maybe it is a success cause I am writing this down right now and that was my point all along.

I thought I should start blogging my daily listens since I have a lot of time to listen to music in the coming month and not much time for anything else.

I started the day off listening to this great new #breakore album by #ElMurki that I have listened to a few times this week. El Murki album cover Breakeadito by El Murki

After feeling psyched listening to new breakcore I wondered if there was anything new from #VenetianSnares and found Aqap from Greg Hates Car Culture, I would have listened to the whole album but it wasn't free to listen to on Bandcamp.

Continuing with the breakcore vibes I decided to see if there was anything new from #PinkAbductionRay and saw that there was but first listened to an album I had already heard and knew I enjoyed.

I had taken a break from work and was chatting with my friend Lee and asked them to send me some recommendations cause I knew they were into music I would like and probably hadn't heard of. We had got to know each while at a really good show in Berlin that my friend #xin had invited me to. My favorite part of the show was getting to see #GabberModusOperandi, which I really need to listen to more of, will have to get back to that tomorrow. Anyway Lee gave me two recommendations to start with. 'kisses 2 my phone' by Sega Bodega & Tash Tung had been stuck in Lee's head so it was the first recommendation I got. And then this #UKNoise album by #Guttersnipe that I really liked but sort of made me feel queasy at the same time. I think it was because I was listening to it with Airpods that are very high pitched. So I didn't get to finish listening to the whole album.

The final album I listened to was a compilation by #Darkmatter Soundsystem that Pink Abduction Ray had posted about having some new material on. The album ended up featuring some great tracks by a number of other people I know in meat space like #WMX, #Dimentia and #Baseck

I wanted to listen to something to get my brain going again and tried the newest 99% Invisible episode that ended up being about soccer which was probably the least interesting 99pi episode I have ever heard.

The final thing I listened to (while working) was the beginning of a new podcast called Unicorn Meta Zoo by the staff at Stack Exchange. The episode I started with was called “How do we handle problem users?” and it was three annoying people making badly thought out arguments about community management and repeatedly calling their community users. I will give the show another try on a different episode this week.

And to finish this post and be exceptionally thorough, I listened to Bassically by #TeiShi three times while writing this post.

Another test of mentions!

I wonder if this works better @liaizon@social.wake.st!

Testing mentions!

If I tag myself @liaizon@wake.st will I get a mention? Lets see!

This is the title!

This is a test post! I am testing! Can I mention a fediverse account in a post @wakest@mastodon.social? Apparently not.

Also looks like updates are not federated back to mastodon yet.

I guess I can edit posts here?!
